What are bond builders? Bond building treatments reduce the oxidative stress caused by hair coloring inside of the hair shaft by protecting and rebuilding the keratin protein bonds that are broken during the coloring process. By including bond builders in a coloring service you can expect the hair to be left soft, shiny, manageable and damage free.

How is a bond building service performed? Bond building services can be completed 2 different ways, stand alone or during a color service. Stand alone bond building treatments are for clients looking to correct pre-existing damage caused from chemicals, heat styling and other causes of damage. A stand alone bond building service is performed differently than one with a color service as during a color service the first portion of the bond building is done during the color service as it is mixed into the hair color or lightener. Stand alone bonding services are designed to repair existing damage in the hair where as bonding services added onto coloring services are made to prevent damage from happening from the chemical service and to allow for color longevity.

Why I include bonding treatments in my color services? I personally use bond builders on every client every time when coloring. Bond building ensure that my clients hair is healthy and strong and will stay that way in between salon visits as well as allow for increased color longevity. My personal favorite bond builder is B3 Brazilian Bond Builder from Brazilian Blowout. I prefer this bond builder over others because it is oil based while other competing brands are water based. Think of it like this, hen you put oil in water, they separate. Because of the oil base found in this specific bond builder I find it lasts much longer in my clients hair without feeling heavy on the hair. This bond builder for one smells amazing but leaves all of my clients hair silky, soft, healthy, shiny and continues to prevent damage even when my clients are not in the salon unlike others.

How can you your bond building treatment lasts in your hair? In order to ensure your bond building treatment gives you the most longevity it is essential to use salon quality products recommended by a licensed professional. For my clients I recommend alternating between hydrating products and bond building at home leave ins and shower care to ensure the hair stays hydrated and strong protein wise.
